Softball Game Preview: Newberry Bulldogs vs. Swansea Tigers

The Newberry Bulldogs will take on the Swansea Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Swansea took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Newberry, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Newberry turned things around against Keenan on Friday. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 22-1 win. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sydney West made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kaydee Rivers was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. Courtney Scurry was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.

Newberry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Swansea was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 12-2 to Fox Creek.

LaMonika Wright made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Newberry picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Swansea, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Swansea's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Newberry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441.
