Baseball Recap: Vernon Hills Cougars vs. Fenton Bison
Vernon Hills took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. Everything went their way against the Fenton Bison as the Vernon Hills Cougars made off with a 9-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their 14-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Robert Miller looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyle Kim, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Tyler Perritt, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernon Hills will challenge Palatine at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fenton, they will face off against Maine East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fenton is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
