Baseball Recap: Villa Madonna Has No Trouble Against Bourbon County

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grant County, Villa Madonna was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Bourbon County Colonels as Villa Madonna made off with an 11-5 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Vikings needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Ryan Timm and Tyler Brandstetter made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Timm pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Brandstetter didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Timm scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Brandstetter scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Luke Smith and Michael Callioni did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Callioni scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Villa Madonna is 2-1 when Callioni posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Ben Murray-Cirulli also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Villa Madonna's record now sits at 3-4. As for Bourbon County, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Villa Madonna beat Bourbon County by a score of 6-5 later that day.
