Baseball Recap: Bedford Has No Trouble Against Greater Johnstown

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Huntingdon, Bedford was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Greater Johnstown Trojans with a sharp 14-4 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bisons also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Gaston Watkins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Owen Tedrow was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Grey Livengood also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Bedford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greater Johnstown only managed five hits.

Bedford is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Greater Johnstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.

Looking ahead, Bedford is taking a road trip to face off against Everett at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Bisons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Greater Johnstown, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Central at 4:30 p.m. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
