Baseball Recap: DeKalb Comes Up Short

DeKalb had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 17-8-1 to make it six. They came up short against the Neuqua Valley Wildcats, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Barbs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

DeKalb got a good showing from Breydon Martin, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Martin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

As for Neuqua Valley, their record now sits at 10-11-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the match before.

On Neuqua Valley's side, they got a great performance from Josh Repmann as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Repmann a new career-high.

At the plate, Sam Widloe was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Neuqua Valley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mike Langan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

While DeKalb had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
