Basketball Game Preview: Tiospaye Topa Thunderhawks vs. Wakpala Sioux

Tiospaye Topa and Wakpala are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Tiospaye Topa Thunderhawks will head out to challenge the Wakpala Sioux at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Tiospaye Topa is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 66 points on Thursday, they were much more limited against Faith on Friday. They came up short against the Longhorns, falling 49-26.

Despite the defeat, Tiospaye Topa saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isaiah Lee posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Wakpala gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 75-17 victory over Oelrichs. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Sioux as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Tiospaye Topa came up short against Wakpala in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 49-45. Can Tiospaye Topa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
