Basketball Recap: South Greene Comes Up Short

South Greene was the 66-49 winner over Cocke County when they last played one another back in November of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The South Greene Rebels lost 64-43 to the Cocke County Fighting Cocks on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Fighting Cocks are ranked 19th).

Cocke County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Wheeler out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Wheeler a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Blakelyn Clevenger, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

South Greene has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Cocke County, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-6.

South Greene will head out to take on Happy Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Greene is facing Happy Valley at the right time seeing as Happy Valley is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cocke County, they will face off against Northview Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Cocke County has won six straight at home, while Northview Academy won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
