Basketball Recap: St. Croix Central Comes Up Short

St. Croix Central suffered their closest loss since December 13, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Elk Mound Mounders by a score of 70-67. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Mounders are ranked 62nd).

With the defeat, St. Croix Central broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-8. As for Elk Mound, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

St. Croix Central is taking a road trip to face off against Ellsworth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ellsworth knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully St. Croix Central likes a good challenge. As for Elk Mound, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 71-62 victory against Mondovi on the 24th.
