Basketball Recap: Michael Kellar's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dunsmuir over Surprise Valley

After flying high against Butte Valley last Tuesday, Dunsmuir came back down to earth. The Dunsmuir Tigers fell 57-49 to the Surprise Valley Hornets on Friday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Dunsmuir lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Michael Kellar, who posted 25 points. Kellar's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jon Schneider was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Surprise Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Casey Grove, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Grove is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Eichstadt, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Dunsmuir's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Surprise Valley, their record is now 3-10.

Dunsmuir will take on Elk Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dunsmuir is facing Elk Creek at the right time seeing as Elk Creek is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Surprise Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 76-35 loss against Tulelake on the 21st.
