Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kamree Morton and Bethany Mateo Lead Milford Christian to Victory

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Milford Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 58-50 win over the Granite Baptist Academy Guardians. Given the Conquerors' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in Delaware, while the Guardians are ranked 150th in Maryland), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Milford Christian was led to victory by Bethany Mateo and Kamree Morton. Mateo dropped a triple-double with 26 points, 11 boards, and 17 steals, while Morton went 7-for-13 on her way to 15 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Mateo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 13 games she's played dating back to last season.

Milford Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Granite Baptist Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Isabella Rich posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Baker, who put up eight points.

Milford Christian's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Granite Baptist Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Coincidentally, Milford Christian and Granite Baptist Academy will both be playing Calvary Baptist the next time they take the court. Milford Christian will host Calvary Baptist at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Granite Baptist Academy will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
