Basketball Recap: Abigail Theophile's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Coconut Creek over Mcarthur

Coconut Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 58-34 to the McArthur Mustangs. The Cougars lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-16 score last time.

Coconut Creek lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Abigail Theophile, who posted eight points along with 12 boards and four steals. Theophile is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arial Jackson, who scored nine points.

Even though they lost, Coconut Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

McArthur's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christina Casseus, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Casseus a new career-high in points. Amor Johnson was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 11 assists and eight rebounds.

Coconut Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for McArthur, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Coconut Creek Cougars take on the Blanche Ely Tigers on Thursday. Blanche Ely will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Coconut Creek surely won't give up without a fight. As for McArthur, they will face off against Archbishop McCarthy on Tuesday.
