Baseball Recap: Sickles Takes Down East Lake in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sickles walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the East Lake Eagles 6-5 on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Gryphons, who have now won three matches in a row.

Ben Durda looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emilio Salgado and Jordan Yost did most of the damage at the plate: Salgado went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Yost went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits Salgado has posted since back in March.

Sickles' record now sits at 20-7. As for East Lake, they moved to 19-7 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Sickles will be playing at home against Palmetto at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Lake, they will welcome Gaither at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are on a six-game streak of home wins, the Cowboys a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
