Basketball Recap: Isaiah Green Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Apex

Knightdale won the last time they faced Apex and things went their way on Friday too. The Knightdale Knights were the clear victor by a 70-47 margin over the Apex Cougars. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Cougars are ranked 424th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Knightdale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaiah Green led the charge by going 8 of 17 on his way to 19 points along with six assists and five steals. Green is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 39 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Longe, who went 5 for 8 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Despite the loss, Apex still got an impressive performance from Sandeep Cheekati, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Those 15 points gave Cheekati a new career-high. Isaiah Scott was another key player, putting up two points along with six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

Knightdale has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Apex, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knightdale will take on Wake Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Apex, they will face off against Apex Friendship at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Apex Friendship's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 matches.
