Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Schurr's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Schurr barely beat Mark Keppel the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Schurr blew past Mark Keppel 15-2 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sophia De Santiago made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mia Gonzales was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Samantha Maldonado, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Schurr always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mark Keppel only posted an OBP of .375.

Schurr has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. Mark Keppel's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.

Coming up, Schurr will head out on the road to take on Sierra Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mark Keppel, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bell Gardens at 3:30 p.m. on April 8.
