Preview: Canton Warriors vs. Montgomery Red Raiders
Canton is on a four-game streak of home losses, Montgomery a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Canton Warriors will take on the Montgomery Red Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Pennsylvania (Canton is ranked 656th, while Montgomery is ranked 660th).
Canton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-40 win over Williamson. Perhaps unsurprisinly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Ben Fitch was his usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-8 from deep and dropping a double-double on 34 points and 21 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Canton's points. Another player making a difference was Cohan Morgan, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Montgomery was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 57-51 to Bucktail. Montgomery has struggled against Bucktail recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Canton's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-15. As for Montgomery, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Canton against Montgomery when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 56-25 victory. Will Canton repeat their success, or does Montgomery have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
