Softball Preview: Kennedy Memorial Mustangs vs. Edison Eagles
The Kennedy Memorial Mustangs will head out to square off against the Edison Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Kennedy Memorial came up short against Old Bridge on Friday, falling 20-5. The loss put an end to the Mustangs' undefeated start to the season.
Meanwhile, Edison strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on East Brunswick Vo-Tech with a sharp 15-3 victory. Fans of the Eagles have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Jenna Fugate made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Fugate was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, K Harkins was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Olivia Shourt was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Edison pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.
