League recap: Loss drops Tylertown out of state Top 25

Tylertown suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after beating Lawrence County. The Chiefs had been ranked 21st, but fell to 29 following the defeat.

Tylertown took down the Cougars 39-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tyre'oune Holmes threw for 59 yards and one touchdown and ran for 127 yards in the win.

Thomaz Taylor was the most productive running back in 4A Region 7 this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 184 yards as Purvis beat Lawrence County. Nathan Roseberry also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.

Slocum was the best wideout in the league this week as the Chiefs defeated David Parker 's team. Slocum tallied three receptions for 65 yards. Ja'moz Mark helped Tylertown's passing attack out by catching one ball for 15 yards.

Purvis' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roseberry has thrown for 760 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Markell Pack has 30 catches for 450 yards. Taylor leads the league in rushing with 935 yards.

Taylor of the the Tornadoes is only 65 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in 4A Region 7 this week will be when the Chiefs take on Purvis. At the moment, Tylertown is in first, while Perry Wheat's team is in third.

There should be lots of points scored when the Chiefs and the Tornadoes face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Tylertown comes in having scored 300 this season, while Purvis has scored 206. The Chiefs scored 39 points last week as they topped the Cougars.

The Tornadoes made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,189 from 2,392. The advance stemmed from a 28-6 victory over North Pike last week.
