Basketball Recap: Blacksburg Wildcats vs. Landrum Cardinals
After flying high against the Greenville Tech Charter Warriors last Friday, the Blacksburg Wildcats came back down to earth. Blacksburg fell 67-60 to the Cardinals on Tuesday. Blacksburg has struggled against the Cardinals recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Blacksburg lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ziyon Harris. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 2 assists. Harris continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Saad Lavender, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Landrum to victory, but perhaps none more so than Franklin Davis, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Colby Walker was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
Blacksburg's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Landrum, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-4.
Blacksburg will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blazers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greer Middle College knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matches -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge. As for Landrum, they will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Greenville Tech Charter: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Cardinals have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
