Basketball Recap: Trinity Lutheran Gets the Win

Trinity Lutheran lost to Rising Sun back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Trinity Lutheran Cougars came out on top against the Rising Sun Shiners by a score of 65-54. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.

Trinity Lutheran found their leader in sophomore Reed Mellencamp, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 25 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Mellencamp has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bode Brooks, who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Trinity Lutheran was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Brody Morris and Dj Williams certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Morris went 7 for 13 en route to 21 points, while Williams went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points and six assists. That was a full 38.9% of Rising Sun's points, marking the third time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points.

The win got Trinity Lutheran back to even at 6-6. As for Rising Sun, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trinity Lutheran has already played their next matchup (against Oldenburg Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Rising Sun will head out on the road to challenge Switzerland County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rising Sun is facing Switzerland County at the right time seeing as Switzerland County is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
