Preview: Celeste Blue Devils vs. Albany Lions
Two dominant backs in Anthony Powell and Adam Hill are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Celeste Blue Devils will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Albany Lions at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Celeste rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 41-12 victory over Seymour. The win was just what Celeste needed coming off of a 35-7 defeat in their prior match.
Celeste's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Powell, who rushed for 168 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. Brock Stewart also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Albany put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They didn't even let Eldorado onto the board and left with a 60-0 win. Given Albany's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Eldorado is ranked 894th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hill continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 153 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 carries. Hill was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chip Chambers, who threw for 106 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.
Celeste is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Albany, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Celeste has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 293.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Albany struggles in that department as they've been averaging 261.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
