Basketball Recap: Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Takes a Loss

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 43-34 to the Sandoval Blackhawks. The matchup was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but the Bobcats couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City lost, don't look at Macee Rodman. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points in addition to six boards and four steals. That was a full 47.1% of Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avrie Vaughn, who had five points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Sandoval had a senior duo take command as Amiya Ray dropped a double-double on 24 points and 22 rebounds and Maddie Starr scored eight points and six boards. Those 22 rebounds gave Ray a new career-high.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's record now sits at 10-17. As for Sandoval, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will head out to face off against Nokomis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nokomis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season. As for Sandoval, they will take on Webber at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
