Basketball Recap: Kailua Falls Short Against Ranked Mid-Pacific Institute

On Wednesday, Kailua faced Mid-Pacific Institute in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Kailua Surfriders fell just short of the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls by a score of 54-51. The Surfriders have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

It was another big night for Logan Mason, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds for Mid-Pacific Institute. Mason has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Darius Chizer, who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points.

Kailua's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Mid-Pacific Institute, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Kailua will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Kahuku at 7:00 p.m. on December 23rd. Kailua is facing Kahuku at the right time seeing as Kahuku is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mid-Pacific Institute, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 68-34 defeat against Moreau Catholic on the 12th.
