Football Recap: State College Takes Down Wilkes-Barre in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and State College had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack a 52-0 shutout on Saturday. That 52 point margin sets a new team best for the Little Lions this season.

D'Antae Sheffey produced another solid effort rushing for 149 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. He is becoming a predictor of State College's success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Hank Lustig also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: State College was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 323 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for State College, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lustig, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

State College has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.8 points on average over those games. As for Wilkes-Barre, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

As of now, neither State College nor the Wolfpack have any future games scheduled.
