The Brockway Rovers will challenge the Moniteau Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brockway is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Brockway proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 15) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brookville, sneaking past 9-7. While the Rovers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Brockway got a great performance from Navayda Smith as she tossed six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Smith has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Elysabeth Myers was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Meeca Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Brockway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moniteau). They blew past East Forest/West Forest 24-6 on Wednesday. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 8.2 runs per game.
Lexi Mcghee made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mcghee was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Stewart, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lily Staab, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Brockway pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Moniteau, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-3.
Moniteau's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brockway has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Moniteau, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Brockway's sizable advantage in that area, the Warriors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brockway suffered a grim 22-2 defeat to Moniteau when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can the Rovers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
