Baseball Recap: Homestead Extends Winning Streak to Three

Homestead hadn't done well against Fishers recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Tigers. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 7-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Luke Riha looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Will Karshner, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Luke Haley also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

The victory was the third in a row for Homestead, bringing their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fishers, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Coming up, Homestead is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fishers, they will welcome Noblesville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
