Basketball Recap: Hamilton Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hamilton can now relate to. They fell 61-50 to the Sunnyslope Vikings on Thursday. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Hamilton lost, don't look at Sage Henry. Despite the final result, she shot 47% from the field to rack up 23 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Henry a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Sipfle, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hamilton was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. This was only their fourth loss (out of 17 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Teagan McIlroy was her usual excellent self, putting up 11 points along with six assists and five boards for Sunnyslope. McIlroy has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Amelia Mickelson was another key player, scoring eight points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks.

Hamilton's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Sunnyslope, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

Hamilton has already played their next match, a 70-42 victory against Rincon/University on the 27th. As for Sunnyslope, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-46 defeat against Desert Vista on the 27th.
