Baseball Game Preview: Capital Cougars vs. Peninsula Seahawks

The Capital Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Peninsula Seahawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Peninsula will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Capital extended their winning streak to five on Saturday. The Cougars blew past Jefferson 12-1.

Peninsula came out on top against Bellarmine Prep on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Seahawks put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 7-1 win.

Pete Browand was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaleb Copeland, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Capital's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Peninsula, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season.

Capital might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Peninsula in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
