Softball Recap: Hoopa Valley Drops Season-High Score on Weed

Hoopa Valley's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Weed Cougars as they made off with a 20-0 win. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Monteya Colegrove was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up three RBI, which were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Hoopa Valley let Angela Hern and Rikki Lipscomb run wild. Hern scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Lipscomb went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave Lipscomb a new career-high. Kiera Maloney was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Hoopa Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weed only posted an OBP of .158.

Hoopa Valley's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12. As for Weed, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hoopa Valley beat the Cougars by a score of 14-9 later that day.
