Recap: Tonopah Valley Phoenix vs. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans

This season hasn't been kind to the Tonopah Valley Phoenix, who are still winless after their 12th match. They were beaten by Scottsdale Preparatory Academy 61-14 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Tonopah Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while Scottsdale Preparatory Academy is ranked 140th).

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chloe Crandall, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Another player making a difference was Ellina Bilstrom, who scored 16 points along with three steals.

Tonopah Valley bumped their record down to 0-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tonopah Valley will play host again and welcome Yuma Catholic, where tip off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Yuma Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Wednesday. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Veritas Prep at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Veritas Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
