Softball Game Preview: Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs vs. Fort Bend Travis Tigers

Fort Bend Austin hasn't had much luck against Fort Bend Travis recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Fort Bend Austin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Fort Bend Austin made easy work of Fort Bend Clements and carried off a 9-2 victory.

Ioanna Avlonitis and Roxanna Ramirez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Avlonitis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ramirez struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Avlonitis scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Avlonitis has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other pitching news, Piper Murchison looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zoey Hoh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hiranya Singh Talan, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Fort Bend Travis made sure to put some runs up on the board against Fort Bend Elkins on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Knights 12-2. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.

Fort Bend Travis' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Bend Austin, their record is now 7-10.

Fort Bend Austin suffered a grim 20-12 defeat to Fort Bend Travis when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
