Basketball Recap: Burwell Longhorns vs. Sandhills/Thedford Knights
It was a good run, but the Burwell Longhorns unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 33-20 to Sandhills/Thedford. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Burwell of the 43-24 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Defeat or not, Burwell got some senior leadership from Kaitlyn Hughes and Jessi Jeffres. Hughes scored nine points along with four steals, while Jeffres. scored four points along with two steals. Hughes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played.
Burwell's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for Sandhills/Thedford, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Burwell will take on the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sandhills/Thedford, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Ainsworth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday.
