Baseball Game Preview: Chaparral Lobos vs. Loving Falcons

The Chaparral Lobos will venture away from home to face off against the Loving Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Chaparral's tournament run continued when they took on Miyamura on Friday. Chaparral walked away with a 10-5 win over Miyamura. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lobos.

Michael Molina and Israel Nieto made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Molina struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Nieto tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). At the plate, Molina scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Nieto scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Diego Ramirez and Carlos Torres did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Torres went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Ramirez is becoming a predictor of Chaparral's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Nicolas Flores also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Loving was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Hatch Valley as Loving made off with a 13-3 victory.

Chaparral's record now sits at 6-4. As for Loving, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
