Softball Game Preview: Wyoming Area Warriors vs. Lake-Lehman Knights

The Wyoming Area Warriors will square off against the Lake-Lehman Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Wyoming Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Monday just wasn't the day for Wyoming Area's offense. They fell 5-0 to Berwick on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Lake-Lehman had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Hawkeyes with a sharp 11-1 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Hannah Chipego was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Brudnicki, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Hayley Wallace, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Lake-Lehman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matches.

Lake-Lehman pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Wyoming Area, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6.
