Football Recap: Meridian Comes Up Short

If Meridian was riding high fresh off their 56-6 takedown of Harvard last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Meridian had to suffer through a 52-19 loss at the hands of Silver Lake. Meridian lost against Silver Lake in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 27-20 score last time.

Despite the loss, Meridian still got an impressive performance from Jayton Jones, who rushed for 60 yards and a pair of scores, and also caught one touchdown.

Silver Lake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Tenbensel, who rushed for 89 yards and one TD on only nine carries, and also picked up 83 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Beau Bonifas, who threw for 176 yards and four TDs.

Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Silver Lake, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Meridian will head out to take on Dorchester at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will be up against the Longhorns' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Silver Lake, they will venture away from home to face off against Harvard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
