Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Mt. Vernon got themselves on the board against Utica on Wednesday, but Utica never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Redskins. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jagger Dohn looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Zac Clow was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Hershberger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Mt. Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Utica, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will head out on the road to take on Granville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Aces will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Yellowjackets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Utica, they will host Lakewood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Redskins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
