Soccer Recap: Varina Takes a Loss

Varina and Hanover pushed the score to 8-0 the last time they played Hanover, but on Tuesday defenses reigned supreme. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 1-0. While losing is never fun, Varina can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 318th, while Hanover are ranked 112th).

Varina's loss dropped their record down to 1-7-1. As for Hanover, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4-1 record this season.

Varina will head out to face off against Hermitage at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Varina will be up against Hermitage's rather soft defense (which has allowed 5.45 goals per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hanover, they will look to defend their home pitch on Friday against Atlee at 7:45 p.m.
