Basketball Recap: Reading Comes Up Short

Reading had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 6-12 to make it four. They were beaten by the Miami Valley Christian Academy Lions 68-40. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 603rd, while the Lions are ranked 157th).

As for Miami Valley Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Miami Valley Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Colin Gearding, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine assists. The dominant performance also gave Gearding a new career-high in steals (six). Braeden Vucic was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reading won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Wyoming at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Cowboys have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Miami Valley Christian Academy, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Cincinnati Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
