Preview: Cocoa Tigers vs. Viera Hawks
The Cocoa Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Viera Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cocoa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Wednesday.
Cocoa pushed their score all the way to 64, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 86-64 walloping at the hands of Hope Academy. While losing is never fun, Cocoa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while Hope Academy is ranked 120th).
Cocoa's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Damien Bryant , who scored 17 points along with seven assists and three steals, and Corey Peterson who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Peterson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Antonio Adderley , who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Viera didn't have too much trouble with The First Academy at home on Wednesday as they won 61-45. The win made it back-to-back wins for Viera.
Cocoa now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Viera, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Cocoa came up short against Viera when the teams last played back in February of 2022, falling 72-65. Can Cocoa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
