Baseball Recap: Wood Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sacramento

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wood). They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Sacramento Dragons on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Luke McCaffery tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jared Oliver was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Wood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Wood and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Sacramento, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10-1.

Wood will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dragons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
