Football Game Preview: Voorheesville Blackbirds vs. Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks

The Voorheesville Blackbirds will head out to take on the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coxsackie-Athens took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Voorheesville, who comes in off a win.

Voorheesville will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any points last Saturday, then bounced right back against Rensselaer/Loudonville Christian on Friday. The Blackbirds took their contest with ease, bagging a 47-6 victory over the Rams. The win continues a trend for the Blackbirds in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Coxsackie-Athens played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 59-14 loss at the hands of Cobleskill-Richmondville. The Riverhawks haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Although Coxsackie-Athens took the loss, they still got scores from Rich Perino and Craig Farrell.

Coxsackie-Athens suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 3-5. As for Voorheesville, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Voorheesville against Coxsackie-Athens when the teams last played back in October of 2021, as the team secured a 48-8 win. In that game, the Blackbirds amassed a halftime lead of 41-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
