Basketball Recap: Reece Stewart's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hilton Head Island over Benedictine

Hilton Head Island lost against Benedictine back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The match between the Hilton Head Island Seahawks and the Benedictine Cadets didn't end well, with the Hilton Head Island Seahawks falling 65-50. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 125th in South Carolina, while the Cadets are ranked 26th in Georgia).

Hilton Head Island lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Reece Stewart, who posted 13 points. Stewart is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kyrice Bowman, who earned 12 points.

Even though they lost, Hilton Head Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Caleb Jones was his usual excellent self, going 12 of 20 on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds for Benedictine. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Benedictine's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ejay Washington, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points.

Hilton Head Island now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Benedictine, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Hilton Head Island wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 71-66 loss against Brunswick on the 13th. As for Benedictine, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-46 win against Hilton Head Island on the 14th.
