Volleyball Preview: Lehi Pioneers vs. Pleasant Grove Vikings
After both having extra time off, the Lehi Pioneers and the Pleasant Grove Vikings will shake off the rust and duke it out at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lehi has three straight victories, Pleasant Grove has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Friday, Lehi was able to grind out a solid win over American Fork, taking the game 3-1.
The final score came out to 25-15, 24-26, 25-15, 25-20.
Lehi can attribute much of their success to Santiago Hernandez, who had 14 digs and three assists. That's the most assists Hernandez has posted since back in March. Ty Reynolds was another key player, getting 51 assists and eight digs.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove faced Bountiful in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vikings lost 3-0 to the RedHawks.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-19, 25-16.
Lehi's victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Pleasant Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 12-16.
Lehi beat Pleasant Grove 3-1 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
