Basketball Game Preview: Edgewood Cougars vs. Waynesville Spartans

The Edgewood Cougars will challenge the Waynesville Spartans at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Edgewood: they have been struggling with 11 straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Waynesville has snatched up 18 consecutive wins on the road also dating back to last season.

Edgewood is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Ross on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Edgewood was outmatched by Ross and fell 70-40. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 655th, while the Rams are ranked 160th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ella Allen, who posted nine points. What's more, she also posted a 57% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Waynesville's strategy against Madison on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Waynesville blew Madison out of the water with a 69-32 final score. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 22 points or more this season.

Edgewood's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Waynesville, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
