Basketball Recap: Maryvale Prep Takes a Loss

Maryvale Prep lost against Santa Rita back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Matador took a blow against the Eagles, falling 54-25. The contest marked the Matador's lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Santa Rita's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Huseyin Jomah led the charge by going 5-for-6 en route to 12 points and four steals. Those 12 points gave Jomah a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamran Shaya Alavi, who posted 13 points and six boards.

Maryvale Prep now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Santa Rita, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Coming up, Maryvale Prep will be home for the holidays to greet Bagdad at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Rita, they will venture away from home to square off against St. John Paul II Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
