Baseball Recap: Mashpee Takes a Loss

Mashpee came into this matchup off a tough eight-run defeat on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Cohasset Skippers by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Skippers earlier this season, when they won 5-0.

Gavin Lakatos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mashpee is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Mashpee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael McGrail, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Mashpee has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Cohasset, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

Coming up, Mashpee will challenge Abington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cohasset, they will host West Bridgewater at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
