Softball Game Preview: Ferndale Golden Eagles vs. Mount Vernon Bulldogs

The Ferndale Golden Eagles will head out to face off against the Mount Vernon Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Ferndale has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Mount Vernon will come in with ten straight wins.

Nooksack Valley hit Ferndale with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Golden Eagles lost 11-0 to the Pioneers. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Golden Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Ferndale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amaya Chervenock, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mount Vernon and Oak Harbor meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Bulldogs blew past the Wildcats 13-5. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Mount Vernon's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Ferndale, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Ferndale beat Mount Vernon 9-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
