Preview: New Bern Bears vs. D.H. Conley Vikings
The New Bern Bears on the road again on Friday and play against the D.H. Conley Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. New Bern knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully D.H. Conley likes a good challenge.
New Bern posted their biggest victory yet this season back in December of 2023. They blew past Pender 59-37. Given New Bern's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while Pender is ranked 511th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Bern to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brewer Simmons, who scored seven points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Zymari Buck, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, D.H. Conley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They lost to Greene Central at home by a decisive 69-51 margin.
New Bern's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for D.H. Conley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
New Bern was able to grind out a solid victory over D.H. Conley in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 62-53. Does New Bern have another victory up their sleeve, or will D.H. Conley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
