Basketball Recap: Academy of the New Church Piles Up the Points Against Woodbury

Academy of the New Church waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They breezed by the Woodbury Thundering Herd to the tune of 70-36. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-16.

Academy of the New Church got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Dior Carter out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance also gave Carter a new career-high in blocks (six). Another player making a difference was Marquis Newson, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

Academy of the New Church's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Woodbury, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Academy of the New Church will challenge Westtown at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Academy of the New Church knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Westtown likes a good challenge. Woodbury has already played their next contest (against Eastside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
