Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Cherryvale's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Cherryvale got themselves on the board against Erie on Monday, but Erie never followed suit. They blew past the Red Devils 15-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-7 on Monday.

Caden Evenson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Cherryvale: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Umbarger, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Cherryvale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-13 when he doesn't). Carsen Ellis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Cherryvale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Erie only posted an OBP of .235.

Cherryvale is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Erie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-16-1.
