Basketball Preview: United Longhorns vs. Spring Lions
Having just played yesterday, the United Longhorns will jump right back in to play the Spring Lions at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spring took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on United, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, United beat Concordia Lutheran 52-40. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Longhorns.
Meanwhile, a victory for Spring just wasn't in the cards on Tuesday as the team wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They came up short against Bridgeland, falling 61-41. The Lions were down 48-24 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Spring saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabby Salazar went 8 for 20 en route to 20 points plus three steals. What's more, Salazar also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Avery Wesley, who had three points plus three steals.
United pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Spring, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
